Mergers and Acquisitions
A merger is not just the sum of assets and debt of two institutions. Corporate culture and corporate identity of employees and especially the commitment of loan officers and middle management needs to be taken very seriously. Additionally a merger implies strong operative changes like, changes in procedures and processes, software and even managers. To achieve a successful merger, these issues plus the employees’ fears and emotions have to be carefully considered so that the employees’ commitment shifts step by step to the new company.
All these aspects that two institutions face in a merger process, become even more important when one of the companies is a small MFI, where the management or the owners themselves were the first in believing in their employees’ abilities, the first to give them the chance to enter into the Microfinance business, the first in investing time and money in their education and capacities.
